Rabbi Daniel Geretz grew up in a large, extended family in St. Louis Park, Minnesota. Rabbi Danny attended Torah Academy in St. Louis Park, and was taught to leyn by a cousin and his South American mother. Rabbi Danny attended (and boarded at) Fasman Yeshiva High School ("Skokie".) His first experience in ritual leadership came when he decided to earn his spending money by serving as a ba’al koreh for several Chicago shuls that were in walking distance of the yeshiva.

Rabbi Danny earned a bachelor degree in Computer Science at the University of Minnesota and was an active member of the U of M Hillel community. He was awarded semikha by YCT Rabbinical School in 2017.

Throughout his demanding professional career as a Director of Operations for a Monmouth County-based business, Rabbi Danny has maintained a busy volunteer schedule, teaching a number of weekly shiurim, and learning several hours weekly with chavrutot as well as on his own. Rabbi Danny has also served in a variety of leadership roles. As a lay leader, Rabbi Danny served as both Financial Vice-President and President of Congregation Ahavas Achim in Highland Park, NJ. He has served as a nusach instructor for YCT Rabbinical School on an occasional basis. He has also served as a gabbai for a local Orthodox shul and is an active member of the International Rabbinic Fellowship, a professional Orthodox rabbinic organization with over 200 members, co-founded by Rabbis Avi Weiss and Marc Angel. Rabbi Danny is also a member of the AJC Jewish Religious Equality Coalition and NAJC (Neshama: Association of Jewish Chaplains.)

Rabbi Danny is married to Jennifer Kotzker Geretz, who grew up in the small Jewish community of Pensacola, Florida. Jennifer’s history of commitment to communal and religious leadership began with her serving as Ortho Minyan Gabba’it for two years at Brandeis University, from which she graduated as a Near Eastern and Judaic Studies major. Jennifer was co-organizer for the Women’s Tefillah Group of Raritan Valley, helped with marketing and publicity for the PTA of Hillel Day School in Boca Raton, and was Co-Founder and Co-Director of Yeshivat Netivot Montessori, located in East Brunswick, New Jersey. Jennifer also worked for YCT Rabbinical School as the Student Services Director and Academic Coordinator. Jennifer currently studies at Yeshivat Maharat in Riverdale, NY, as a member of the Class of 2020.

Jennifer and Rabbi Danny have 6 children ranging in age from 5 through 27, one wonderful son-in-law, and a very patient cat.
